September 13, 2020 - “Meeting of classics and rock”: Concert of AGBU Sofia Chamber Orchestra

Apr 12, 2021

On September 13, the long-awaited concert of the AGBU Chamber Orchestra Sofia finally took place, postponed twice for objective reasons related to the complicated COVID-19 and the political situation.

After a long pause, the orchestra, conducted by Levon Manukyan, appeared in a completely different, new vision. For the first time it was outside the traditional concert hall, as the venue of the event was chosen Largo of the Ancient Cultural and Communication Complex "Serdika. The program was very different and not the typical one - composed entirely of arrangements of famous songs of cult rock and metal bands - Led Zeppelin , Nirvana, Metallica, Aerosmith and others.

A classical chamber orchestra, a band (piano, guitars, drums) and soloists-vocals stood side by side on the stage. An interesting combination, challenging for each of the participants. The young vocalists Verzhinia Jamgochyan and Sergey Vardevaryan fully developed their vocal and stage-artistic abilities and definitely impressed the audience. The result of the meeting of these toatlly different styles - the classical sound of string instruments and rock expression was greatly received by the audience of both types of music and deservedly applauded.

This one, as well as the rest of the concerts of AGBU Chamber Orchestra Sofia until the end of the year, are dedicated to a very noble cause - raising funds to support Armenian families living in Beirut and affected by the devastating explosions in the city this summer. In this way, music becomes not only an aesthetic and emotional pleasure, but also a conduit of mutual help and humanity between people.
